Hello, my name is Ellie Steltz; I am the owner of Misc. Delights Co. I am a creator who has a passion for snail-mail, calligraphy, coffee, wildflowers, gardening, finding creative ways to reduce waste, and just creating in general!
I would love to share a little history of how this business came to be! For as far back as I can remember, I have always loved creating. I would find creative ways to use just about anything and had a very hard time throwing anything away because of that. As I grew up, this passion for reusing things in creative ways led me to research how the wastefulness in the first world culture affects our natural resources and quality of life. Living in both Brazil and Angola (in Africa) while growing up also helped me gain an outward perspective on the waste in the world today as I witnessed how people lived on so little in many areas of these countries.
The wastefulness in our culture today is what led me to be passionate about using recycled materials. This is why I have chosen to use only recycled paper products for my listings. I hope that by doing this I will encourage others to look into recycling and find creative ways to reuse things, keeping more waste out of landfills. As residents of the earth, we have a responsibility to steward and nurture the bountiful blessings of nature.
One of the greatest inspirations for my creativity is nature. This is reflected in many of my design choices. I also love connecting with people and inspiring others to do the same. "Snail-mail" is one of the best ways to show someone you care about them and are thinking of them. That’s why I love creating greeting cards. My mission is to inspire people to send more letters to their loved ones, and make it easy for them to do so!
I cut and fold every card myself, using paper from Green Earth Supplies . I draw the designs and do all the lettering by hand; each card is unique. I craft the mailers myself using recycled chipboard from EcoEnclose and homemade glue. I aim to produce minimal waste during my creation and packaging processes.
The art of sending thoughtful greeting cards does not have to be lost in our tech-filled world. Instead, it will become all the more precious as an alternative to sending emails and texts. I hope you have been inspired by my shop and reading a little about me and why I do what I do...now go write a letter to someone you love!
